WATCH: A Road Trip to Awe-inspiring Desert Saudi Arabia Landscapes (VIDEO)

Video and Text By George Pontino Jr.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is home to expatriates from different nations. It is also home to awe-inpiring landscapes that is pulling expats to go on a road trip as a way to combat homesickness and boredom as they are away from their respective countries.

A group of Filipino OFW (Overseas Foreign Workers) got to taste the great outdoors with a trip to Thumamah Al Hair or Al Haeer Red Sand dunes, where one can ride the ATV bikes during a season when the sun is no longer that terribly boiling hot. As winter season comes near, the desert landscape, south of Riyadh is full of life as people not only spend time driving the big bikes on desert sands but also get to have picnics (sometimes with cooking grilled food) as a sign of camaraderie and relaxation.

The accompanying video above encapsulates a story into one event and it is accompanied by my original song entitled DIWATA (meaning fairy goddess), a Filipino song composition I wrote and recorded back in 2000 with my band Majica. The song gives life to our day trip full of adrenaline-filled excitement and nature's wonder. If you want to sing along or understand its meaning, the video comes with a Filipino language caption or subtitle and can be translated to many languages through a YouTube amazing tool - CC  which stands for Closed Captions. Hope the translation serve the video right :)

A Photography Monstrosity (SAY CHEESE special):"Strike Anywhere" a digital painting

Concept and Digital Painting by George Pontino Jr (All Rights Reserved)
Hello, it's been a while since my last photoshop manipulation. Well, I decided that I need to hybernate since, first and foremost, I need a fresh project that would provide me with newfound inspiration and imagination. And that is SAY CHEESE! which is a monthly digital painting endeavor featuring photographers in various "viral" situations. Herewith is "Strike Anywhere." Done mainly in Photoshop CS3, this digital painting is actually around for sometime around 2008 but I didn't finish it along those times when I got sick (I had operation) and of course, around 2009 I gave life to Pixelrocket, this blog, which are mainly Photoshop Manipulations based from my photos. But this time, forgive me to give you a once in a month digital paint to give a twist on my blog but I'll stay true to its mission of sharing my Photomanips. Hopefully, it works! :) Enjoy the imagination I poured on this image and hope you'll tweet and facebook this to your friends. Thanks ;)

End of Decadence (Going Greek Volcanic)

End of Decadence (Above image before and after) was borne out of a "workless" day (READ: Deadlines met and had nothing to do at the office). I was able to bring my USB Flash on hand and searched folder by folder of archive photos. A photo of me taken by my fellow photography enthusiast caught my fancy. It was a photo taken in  Usheger, Saudi Arabia where abandoned mudhouses and village abound. Soon, I found myself converting the image into a volcanic drama...set in Ancient Greece. And me--an accidental tourist from the future. It took only less than 4 hours to make and this image evolved minute by minute. It was like playing music by ear.  I believe the hit movie '300' has greatly influenced me in choosing the color scheme. (Click the image to enlarge)
