Frog Mentality (Fallopian Dreams series part 2)

Photomanipulation and model photography by: George Pontino Jr
Model: Cyrene Pahilanga Working time: 3-4 hours

Frog Mentality is a fantasy-based photo manipulation I did yet instead of a happy ending it has a darker ending. For my inspiration, I look upon the story of the popular Frogprince tale that was popularized by authors the Brothers Grimm centuries ago. In their tale, a spoiled princess reluctantly befriends a frog (possibly meeting him after dropping a gold ball into his pond), who magically transforms into a handsome prince. So see that's a good happy ending. Princess meets cursed Prince and they lived happy ever after.
However, in my own viewpoint, it is different, this is kind of suspenseful story that ended really really bad, for the Frog Prince. The lily pad turns out to be a hungry underwater carnivore disguised as an amiable lady that's ready to devour every living thing that crosses its path.

Tame Your Sound: Alien Invasion Photomanipulation

Photoshop Manipulation and concept by George Pontino Jr.
Model Photo Provided by the model

*See The Making below...

Tools: Photoshop CS5 I Mac OSX Lion I Wacom pen and tablet

My intro will be lesser this time for i wanted to highlight the final and behind the scenes images. This photomanipulation was borne out of a request. Thanks to Ralph Ledesma (a beatboxer) and his photo taken by Fiel Efenio that I was able to come up with another challenging yet satisfying photomanipulation that is both mysterious and cute, in a sense. Inspired by the Japanese cute culture called Kawaii and robotics, I gathered some juice of creativity for a taming scene (Think the How to Tame Your Dragon scene where the young Hiccup tamed Toothless. You get the Idea) Now, think of a robo bulldog alien that seems fierce but made of speakers and headset, but if you look closely, it is an adorable bot creature that's just want to invade our planet with its beatboxing sounds. Check out below for the step by step image

UNLEASH THE DRAGON IN YOU: Bruce Lee Machine 2011 and 2012 versions

Model Photoraphy, Photomanipulation and concept by George Pontino Jr.
Model: Christian Aldana as Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee turned 71 on Oct. 27 2011 and as a fitting tribute, I planned for something unusual that will commemorate this great cultural and pop icon. I decided to do a Steam Punk-inspired re-evolution machine that generates a young Bruce Lee. Using my friend as a model, I put him inside using a crude-looking machine with a glass capsule. This image is also inspired by the story of Dr. Frankenstein who brought a monster into life. But this one though is different. It's like a cloning machine that  brings back people using the cloning technology.
I hope, through my photomanipulation, Bruce Lee's spirit is here to stay and his legacy will live on through the years and influence more people.

2012 Version of my Bruce Lee Machine (See 2011 version below)

Additonal Notes: To complete the images, I added "cameo roles".  First, another good friend Jimm Malvar acts as the journalist/photographer here.  There's ShuffleBot (a fun robo costume created by Skippy Gustilo who's US based YouTuber whom  I met  in Bacolod during MassKara Festival). The bot appears as the cloning machine operator. For the effects, I manually used lightning and smoke to give life to the industrial and crude look. And for the glass case, I used a drinking glass photo in which I added some bubbles to create an illusion of a capsule with water and bubbles inside of it.

Zombie Attack on Apocalyptic Day

Selfie Photomanipulation and concept by George Pontino Jr
Model: Me and and My Hands...haha :D

The late Director and the Father of Zombie film George Romero's apocalyptic vision changed the landscape of horror movies. Everything started with his 1968 flick Night of the Living Dead and came a lot of zombie films, tv series like AMC's The Walking Dead and even a computer game Plants and Zombies. They an are obviously homage to his creations that could possibly happen in real life (just google the zombie ants: Camponotini ant tribe infected by fungus O. unilateralis. They are the closest zombies the real life could offer). There's even a comedy movie called the Shaun of Dead. So, to pay homage to my namesake, here's my personal version and original music"

AFTER. THE FINAL IMAGE done by the Author for his Profile Pic

With the advent of Iphone apps like Instagram, the film look was revived to a new generation of photo enthusiasts when IG introduced aged filters. With Photoshop, you can do filters using a lot of tools. In my part,  I changed and used that mood entirely here using textures and corroded film. I also added scratches. I'm happy with the final image but I'm still planning to keep the "realistic" one.. See below.  :)

BEFORE. Come to me my dear zombie!
So this is the colorful "Before" Image. As a zombie movie fanatic, making a zombie photomanipulation is one image editing work I always planned to do. There's this apocalyptic image in my head that somehow echoes everytime I look at my "Doc" photo which was shot by a friend. For the attacking zombie hands, I took my phone and shot each hand until I have both pictures ready to cut and paste. I placed in on a strategic place on my main image as if acting an attacking zombie is close at hand. Inspired by The Walking Dead's intro anthem color, I was able transform colored images into a dark and somber apocalyptic era where Zombie reigns. (see AFTER image above)

"Mind your Own Business, Coz Business is Good Up Here" (The Living Anime part 2)

Photography, Photoshop Manipulation and Concept by George Pontino Jr.
Model: Sheila Guerrero

Ahhh! Taking photos of Cosplayers is mind-numbing as you want to search the best angle that will give justice to the costume the cosplayer decided to wear.  When I saw Sheila walking along the entrance of the 888 Chinatown Square mall, I was getting ready to take a photo but somehow, something stopped me. I saw how she acts realistically as if she's a living anime. It was during MassKara Festival in Bacolod and many people are going to and fro photographing cosplayers strutting their own stuff. But it was Sheila who caught my fancy, so I decided to use a wide-angle lens and shot her using a bird's eye viewpoint. The result of the photo was engaging specially her eyes are so dramatic as well as how she holds her cigar. When it's time to photo edit this photo, I decided a contemporary background instead of a traditional Japanese theme. I looked for tall buildings that can create illusions of heights and, of course, I was happy with the result. (See the step by step image of how I manipulated her photo on this fear of heights-inducing image)

Goddess de Machina (Fantasy ladies series part 1)

Model Photography, Photoshop manipulation and concept by George Pontino Jr.
Model: Dior who is portraying a Goddess

*TOOLS USED: Photography (Nikon D7000 and SB900 speedlight) Manipulation: (Photoshop Cs3, Wacom tablet and pen, Mac)

When you look at my Goddess of Machina photomanipulation, at first, you will conclude that it is minimalistic or a simple edit. But if you look closely, it's an intricate image. Focus on the the metal insect. That's where I pour more hours to make it an oustanding piece of machine . From pieces of metallic image from watches and bulbs, I was able to create a steam punk flying machine that resembles a bee. (See how did it below) And the second thing was too let the model Dior, who hails from Iloilo City in the Philippines, interact with the glowing flying creature, as if it flies steady and ready to relay a message or secret to her.

Global WARMing Spa: The Coolest Elven Winterland

Photoshop Manipulation and Concept by George Pontino Jr.

The winter season has two opposite faces. For many, the sight of snow and the winter chills is a start of good holiday cheers. (Yehey, It's Christmas time!) But for others, it's another fight against Mother Nature's frozen attitude and drastic, uhm, cold shoulders. Blizzards attacks many towns and stops daily life. Snow pounds and cover villages. Homes become havens or prisons because of this cold winter spell.
It was indeed a challenge for me to create a weird Winterland with a grim look inspired by Global Warming but with a touch of dark comedy humor.
To realize this photomanipuation, I opted for a surreal dwarf village where in houses are made of frozen fish. To feed your fancy thoughts more, I created a hot spring spa on a salmon's mouth. I'm hoping the idea would please my blog followers' and visitors' expectations.
So, this holiday I say, Winter Chills, I mean, Cheers to you!

The Group Hug of Group Hugs: MESS in Atlantis (Photographers in Peril part 8)

Photoshop manipulation and Concept by George Pontino Jr. Last September 2010

When I went to Bahrain in 2010, I met fellow M.E.S.S.(Middle East Shutter Squad) members who are based in Bahrain in flesh.  I only have known some of them through the web via Flickr and Facebook.
While there, I was able to hold a brief workshop about photo editing. We had also a photoshoot in the park where I got to take a group shot and finally converting it into something amazing in visual output. The result is this:

With great hospitality extended to me through out my stay in Bahrain, I turned our group shop as a photomanipulation tribute as a way to thank my hosts and new friends I met there.
I primarily envisioned a powerful force closing in on us as we are inside a lost civilization that reminds me of the lost city of Atlantis.
In the end, my image has that Indian Jones slash Lara Croft adventures theme. I combined Greek, Egyptian and Aztec stuff to create my lost ancient city with an EPIC wave engulfing the place where we have a very brief time to escape. We are Photographers in peril, indeed! :)

My Parasite (Fallopian Dreams Photomanipulation series part 1)

Model Photography, Photomanipulation and concept by: George Pontino Jr.
Model: Vaughn Earl Lacson

Welcome to Pixelrocket RECHARGED!!
It's a return with more powerful images and more series to boot. And to bring you a fresh visual feast is "My Parasite", first from the series called 'Fallopian Dreams' wherein in growth/life and dreams/nightmares are my main recipes. Using my photography of my model Vaughn, I started to stitch him with wires, worms moving out from a can, lightbulb to provide dramatic lighting and other junks that I usually see in landfills. This photomanipulation is inspired by cross cut images of archaeological findings and the ant farm on a glass. (See the step by step image below of how I did it)

Reality is so Clear to Me (Apocalypse Photomanipulation Series)

Photomanipulation and concept by George Pontino Jr.

Dreams are our escape from reality when we sleep and they are so mysterious that they are often interpreted as signs of upcoming events or even hints of past memories.
Pixelrocket has evolved into something dreamy, if I can put it in an artist's point of view.  Most of my previous series involved fun and humor but this time, everything has loneliness mood as if an apocalypse happened and you find yourself alone. Though it's more than a nightmare than a dream, this photomanipulation testifies to the possibility that with the carelessness of men, we will surviving in a gravity-less world where deserts covered entire cities and oceans. Hunger slowly kills us until men are extinct.

Safari Sun (Photographers in Peril part 5)

Photomanipulation and concept by George Pontino Jr.

(NOTE: No animals were hurt during the shooting of this image and during the 2-hour rush photo manipulation process.)

A spark of an idea can be dangerous...
Well, for my part, a concept can take my mind to the African tundra, jungle or any perilous place  it can imagine. Thanks to Photoshop, every place I go to is just a state of mind. Safe and away from hungry species.  This image, using my godson Alvi's baby photo,  was possible thanks to layers and effects of Adobe's popular software, PS. Photomanipulation is a breeze. See how I did this photo edit called "Safari Sun" from start to finish. -- (see image below)

"We Got No Troubles! Life is the Bubbles!" (Photographers in Peril part 4)

Photomanipulation and Concept by George Pontino Jr.

One of the great things about photomanipulation is the fact that you get to conceptualize amazing things that many people think could be impossible or crazy...even putting bands doing music underwater may seem far-fetched for an idea. But not to the tools of Photoshop.  Many advertising agency has used the power of Photoshop's tools to simply make impossible things come to life, albeit, in a jpg image only.

My  title "We Got no Troubles. Life is the Bubbles" is inspired and taken from Disney's Little Mermaid's song "Under the Sea" sang by the singing lobster, Sebastian. The Ariel-starrer flick also inspired me to do this image, a concert in the sea where bubbles will probably what you will mostly only  hear when these talented musicians finally sing.  This comedic image yet a fancy underwater musical to entertain. I took the camera and shot a worm's-eye-view.

Check out the perfomances of the band at http://www.youtube.com/user/herberthumphrey

iProphet (The Exodus)

Before the iPad, there's the iProphet...
My quest to transform my photography, featuring my friend Karlo Panahon, into something biblical in inspiration yet steampunky in visuals has ended. Behold iProphet (The Exodus)!!! The original image was taken in Tuwaik, Saudi Arabia's Camel Trail in one of our photo-adventure sessions. With his GPS-capable phone, we went there together with three friends in tow, had fun under the sun with lots of photographs taken (of which I will manipulate and feature here sooner or later.)  Thanks to GPS technology, we didn't lose our way back home after sundown.
And why such title, if you ask? It is loosely based on Apple Company's style of branding and the Holy Bible's Exodus 17:8-9 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." (Click images to enlarge)
